The Amazon week

Aug 03 – Aug 09, 2026

Read from Amazon on 2026-08-10; the newest week can still move a little. This is the weekly edition. The slower numbers, customers, money by range, Amazon's fees and the year, come in the first report of each month, next in early September.

The week

How the week went

1 product flagged by Amazon and not selling

Fluoride-free Toothpaste · Charcoal is flagged by Amazon and sold nothing this week. It was making $4,100 a week. A listing nobody can buy earns nothing for as long as it stays down.

Revenue fell 6.3% to $88,850, and most of the drop is one listing Amazon took down.

The week came in at $88,850, down 6.3% on last week and 3.4% below the four-week average, while still running 21.4% ahead of the same week last year. The fall is narrow. The charcoal toothpaste sold nothing after selling $4,100 the week before, because Amazon suppressed the listing over its main image; that one product is more than two-thirds of the shortfall. The whitening pen slipped from $9,800 to $6,300 and the strips from $31,900 to $28,400, while the core toothpaste rose from $37,800 to $41,250. Fix the image today, reorder the strips this week, and look at the pen's product page before spending more on it.

Are your ads paying

Your ranges keep between 36% (Everything else) and 46% (Whitening) of every dollar they sell, so there is no single answer to whether ads are too expensive: each range is judged against its own line. Figures cover all ad types (Sponsored Products, Brands, Display).

Held to the same one day of credited sales in both weeks — the fairest comparison there is — sales went up 5.2%, from $32,400 to $34,100, and the cost of sale went with it, from 36.7% to 36.5%. It covers Sponsored Products only; the figures at the top of this section include the rest, $1,750 of the week's spend.

What a first-time buyer cost. $14,200 of advertising ran against 3,110 people who bought from you for the first time, which is $4.57 each. Across the 8 weeks that have fully settled the middle one came to $4.24, so this week sits above the run of them. A ceiling, not a measurement: it is every ad dollar against every first-time buyer, and the ad type carrying almost all the spend never says whether a buyer is new.

Break-even is the most a search can spend per $1 sold and still make money, from its own products' margin. Judged on 2026-08-03 to 2026-08-09, the most recent days whose sales have finished landing.
Below these sit 3 smaller searches, $880 of spend between them.
Across the whole account 2 searches of 10 came in over their line, carrying $2,180. Judged on 2026-08-03 to 2026-08-09, the most recent days whose sales have finished landing.
Being over the line cost $978 across 2026-08-03 to 2026-08-09

Worst first: charcoal toothpaste ($410), teeth whitening led light ($290), enamel safe whitening ($180). That is the margin on the orders those ads produced, less what the ads cost — and it counts nothing of what those buyers are worth on their next order. A search can be worth losing this much on; none is worth losing it by accident.

Not set as rank or profit: whitening strips, teeth whitening kit, whitening toothpaste, toothbrush replacement heads, carrying $6,030 between them. Until they are set, this page reads them on their ad economics alone, which is the wrong test for a search bought to hold position.

Traffic you sent from elsewhere

Traffic you sent to Amazon from somewhere else turned 16,000 clicks into $15,020 of Amazon sales last week, which is 16.9% of everything the channel sold.

Every step here happens on Amazon, after the click leaves the place that sent it.
The step that loses people is "Added to cart"

It keeps only 20.0% of the people who got as far as the step before it. People who reach the product page and do not put it in the basket are telling you about the page itself, its price, its pictures, its reviews and whether it is in stock. Sending more traffic does not change that number.

That is $7,620 of $15,020, on a platform whose rules and prices are not yours to set.

All of this is counted on Amazon, not on the platform that sent the click, which cannot see a purchase that finishes on Amazon. Amazon holds a click here for 14 days and the advertising figures count on a different clock, so never add the two sales figures together.

How to read this

Five things Amazon's data does

The newest week always reads badly. Amazon keeps crediting sales to a click for up to thirty days and restates a week for about a fortnight after it closes. So the newest week shows its highest cost of sale and its lowest sales, and improves on its own.

Amazon names only the top three products on a search. A company sitting fourth is invisible, shares do not add up to everything, and a gap in a share line is a week that company was not in the top three — not a week it sold nothing.

Clicks and purchases are two different measures. Where a rival's share is a share of clicks and yours is a share of purchases, the two do not subtract.

Your own name and everything else are never averaged. One measures whether people remember you, the other whether you can win a stranger. On this shelf they are two orders of magnitude apart.

Search data runs about a week behind the money. It is the newest week Amazon has published, not the week the revenue covers, and it counts only searches your products appeared on.
